Abstraction in the field of architectural design – as the semiotics of architecture’s untamed teleological desire - is the implementation of a calculation that is by nature exclusionary/inclusionary. It has the perfect home in academe where it reveals it secrets to those who subscribe to - and participate in - these calculations; thus the perplexingly circulatory relationship in architectural pedagogy between ‘knowing’ and mystification.
